Schülerinnen und Schüler der Klassen 9 bis 12 besuchen das Schauspiel in englischer Sprache

Am 3. März besuchten die Schülerinnen und Schüler der Jahrgangsstufen 9 bis 12 das Theater Crimmitschau, um sich die Inszenierung von "The Great Gatsby" in englischer Sprache anzusehen.

Im Anschluss daran verfassten die Lernenden der Klasse 11 Rezensionen in deutscher und englischer Sprache:

“The Great Gatsby“: wealth, love and tragedy in the 1920s

“The Great Gatsby”, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a novel set in the 1920s, the Jazz Age, and centers upon the mysterious and wealthy Jay Gatsby. 

The story is told by Nick Carraway, a young man who moves to Long Island and becomes a neighbor of Gatsby, who is famous for his extravagant parties and his unrequited love for Daisy Buchanan, who is married to Tom. But Tom has an affair with Myrtle, the wife of George Wilson, who was a poor gas station worker. The novel explores themes of ambition, love, social class and the American Dream, ultimately revealing the disillusionment that comes with the pursuit of wealth and status.

The actors do a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life with their riveting performance, they truly captivate the whole audience. One of the most impressive aspects is the use of their voices. They perfectly convey the emotions the characters feel at the respective moments, such as Tom’s wrath and despair when Gatsby tells him that Daisy has never loved him.  They are fabulous at bringing the luxury and extravagance of the 1920s to the stage by their use of costumes, the music and the parties, which epitomize the wild lifestyle of that time. However, they are also able to show the darker side of the time, for example showing how empty Gatsby`s life is. The stage is quite empty and simple, yet the few props are used in a creative way.

To conclude, the play is really delightful and truly riveting. You can clearly see how talented the actors of the American Drama Group Europe are. I would recommend this play to high level English learners and those who are interested in the 1920s.

Jazz, Drama und Herzschmerz: Eine fesselnde „Great Gatsby“-Aufführung

Am 3. März 2025 wurde im Theater von Crimmitschau eine glanzvolle Inszenierung von F. Scott Fitzgeralds The Great Gatsby von der American Drama Group aufgeführt. Das von Leo Benedict inszenierte Stück basiert auf Fitzgeralds Roman und wurde von fünf Schauspielern und Schauspielerinnen präsentiert, die die Essenz der Goldenen Zwanziger auf die Bühne brachten. Es erzählt die Geschichte des geheimnisvollen Jay Gatsby, der rauschende Partys veranstaltet, in der Hoffnung, seine verlorene Liebe Daisy zurückzugewinnen.

Die Produktion besticht nicht nur durch mitreißende Schauspielkunst, sondern auch durch beeindruckende Gesangseinlagen, Tanz und glamouröse, extravagante Kostüme, die den Stil des Jazz-Zeitalters perfekt einfangen. Jeder Darsteller und jede Darstellerin lieferte eine herausragende Performance und wechselte dabei nahtlos zwischen verschiedenen Rollen. Die minimalistische Bühnengestaltung sorgte gelegentlich für Verwirrung im Publikum, da die Schauplätze nicht immer sofort erkennbar waren. Dennoch wurden die Requisiten kreativ in das Stück integriert – so diente eine Kiste auf der Bühne sowohl als Sofa als auch als Auto und sogar als Grab. Besonders die Schauspielerin von Jordan Baker überzeugte nicht nur durch ihr starkes Schauspiel, sondern auch durch eine fesselnde Gesangsperformance, während sie im Laufe des Stücks verschiedene Charaktere verkörperte.

Insgesamt ist die Inszenierung hervorragend umgesetzt, und die Balance zwischen Unterhaltung und Gesellschaftskritik ist gut gelungen. Ich kann sie jedem empfehlen, der eine Mischung aus ekstatischer Begeisterung und tiefgehender Tragik erleben möchte.
